    Almost time for inking!

Edit to add: started inking because I finally ran out of patience

Amazing already. The way you combine art an cartography is really impressive.
    Can't wait to see more.

    Oh its so tiny!

How on Earth do you work so small?

And so beautiful too despite the lack of space.

    Truly amazing!

I kind of have to, Sue. Sadly
    1) The paper size is A3, which is about the largest size I can scan (in 2 parts) and then stitch together in photoshop. I've tried larger, but merging the separate parts becomes a nightmare.
    2) I couldn't draw a straight line if my life depended on it (well, especially when my life depends on it, I suppose) and working small obscures that fact In seriousness though, a bit larger would be nice. It's hard to get proportions right on a small scale. Get your lines half a millimeter off, and it's an immediate mess.

    A3 is tiny.

I wouldn't have dared to start a painting of that city on anything less than A1 if I was working with non digital materials - if I was hoping to get as much detail as you have managed to squeeze in. I'm just nowhere near as accurate on paper! LOL!

This is truly inspiring for me! I am in awe of your details! City maps seem so intimidating to me. I really appreciate that you are sharing your progress as you go, I'm always a big fan of watching a piece unfold step by step. Also, yay for Micron pens! <3

It is NOT tiny. It is perfectly adequate, thank you very much.
    Never had any complaints ...

Heh, if I tried it on A1, I'd probably feel obliged to squeeze in even more details. I'd never finish any work XD

    Thanks!
With regards to them being intimidating, I think the trick is to try small parts first. Makes sure you can do all the elements you want to put in and practice them small. Then put them all together in a big city. The hardest part for me is staying consistent.

Latest update: all the inking is now done. This is the first time I've finished the lineart part of a city map completely by hand. Some sloppy lettering here and there, and I'm not entirely happy with the placement of the legend, but on the whole I am quite pleased with this. Time to start colouring

Edit: still got stray pencil marks and bits of eraser. Aaarrrhg ... XD

I feel you ! I spend the afternoon cleaning a direct to ink project with few pencil marks but on dotted paper ... Had to erase all the dots and it's a bit tedious ...

Yesssss, you put windmills on some of the towers! Looking pretty great, by the way.
My new Deviant-thing. I finally caved.
