best way to learn GIMP to become a good map maker.

Hello everyone,

Not only am I new to cartographers guild, I am new to photo editing software. I was wondering if anyone could spare some time to tell me the best way to learn GIMP and develop skills to become a good map maker.

Hi again, Snap. To learn Gimp basics, I'd suggest heading to Youtube and looking for some intro tutorials there. They don't have to be map-related. Really any beginner's guide type of vid will probably be useful to you. You probably want to familiarise yourself with the tools of the software first, but once you've got the basics down, head for the Tutorials area of the Guild and try out a couple. There are a quite a number created for Gimp (though some of them are a little old now). Even if you're not completely sold on the look of the map you're creating, working through a couple of tuts will teach you many techniques that you can take further on your own.
