Ah ha! I see now - and understand

So you are saying that if we go down the community project road with this thing we could divide it up something a bit like this:

And here you will have to forgive me for butchering your idea!

(My version is meant to be a very hard cold plan of how to split up the area, and not necessarily the final plan by any means!)

If anyone feels like donating a sketch for an alternative way of doing this so that we can get away from a simple square or rectangular grid, please feel free to join in the sketching

I am interested in joining the project but I have a clear preference toward a more modern city. I think it would be a better fit for this kind of project than a medieval city. Considering the final size of the thing it's going to be a gigantic city by medieval standards.

That's not nerdy. Its symmetrical, which is possibly a little on the tidy side for this job

I think my version is also rather too tidy. If you don't mind, I'd like to wait and see if anyone else is willing to offer any alternatives to ours before we get too carried away with developing the details too much

    Hello Azelor

I can't say yet which way this is going to swing! LOL!

I shall add your name to the list for now - just to make sure we divide this thing into enough sections if we go the group way. If you decide against it closer to the time just PM me and I'll remove it again for you - no problem

I'd be on John's side on this matter. A more organic feel with districts not so orderly and the shape of the district that gives birth to it's content. What he did on Guildworld was a real feat and I guess his division of the lands was something inspiring to people. Maybe I'm wrong, the Guildworlder can tell us what they thought of it. The problem with this idea is that it takes a special talent to do such a thing and I think John's got much on his plate at the moment.

I think that's what I'm trying too hard to struggle with right now.

How did it happen with the Guildworld project. Did John just slice it up and hand out the pieces?

EDIT: I mean in the form of transparent PNG files so that everyone drew only up to the edge of their extent.

yeah, that was basically how it was done.
I will try to do a sketch sample later tonight to give a possible demonstration of what can be done.
Doing taxes and invoicing at the moment.

So, what I mean with that example is that I think (with a lot of help of our beloved leaders) we can make a city like the guild world : top down drawings, each one a part of a city, in her/his own style... and the part of a city can be a whole district, or a building of some importance, or a park... anything that takes place in the city.

All this discussion make me think of a serie of comics books that comes from France (or Belgium ?)
I don't think it's what we should do, but it can be inspirational : it's a city that covers a whole planet

@ Jo - Yes - that's it - that's what the community project idea is about

@ John - Thank you so, so much for your help right now! We can wait a bit if its not convenient
